A Seattle seagull

In Seattle, where I grew up, gulls were an everyday sight. But I never expected to see seagulls in the Midwest. Comparing a photo of our local gulls, with one of a Seattle gull, I can see they are different species. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, there are 24 species of gulls across North America. Eight of those species have adapted so well to living around humans that they can cause ‘human-wildlife conflicts.”

I read a selection from an informative USDA brochure about gulls for the 81st volume of the Short Nonfiction Collection.
